How will an apprentice benefit my business?

Apprenticeships are the proven way to train your workforce. Apprenticeships can make your organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing your skills gaps directly, even in uncertain economic times.

The Apprenticeship programme has been designed to help your employees reach a high level of competency and performance and with over 180 different types of Apprenticeships, there’s bound to be a place for an apprentice in your organisation.

An an employer, you will benefit from:

What is our role as a training provider?

Sandwell Training Association will provide an employer representative who will guide and support you through the process. We will work with you to:

  • Help you decide which Apprenticeship is right for you
  • Explain the way that Apprenticeships might work for you and if funding is available
  • Agree a training plan with your Apprentice
  • Recruit an Apprentice or support your existing staff into Apprenticeships
  • Manage the training and evaluation to ensure they have the practical skills and qualifications your organisation needs now and in the future
  • Helping you develop your workforce to keep pace with the latest technology and working practices in your sector

What are my responsibilities as an employer?

  • Give your apprentice an induction into their job role and provide the on the job training
  • Allow one of our trained assessors on site in your company to assess your Apprentice
  • Pay your Apprentice’s wage (this will reflect their skills, experience, ability and the going rate for the job role)
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and hold a current employers liability insurance document

Employer Grant (AGE 16 to 24)

If you are a business employing up to 1000 employees and interested in recruiting a young apprentice you could be eligible to receive the £1,500 grant.
